Another terrific, well researched talk by Ray Rogers, Hornsey Historical Society’s Conservation Officer, at the Union Church on 13th May.

Attracting a combined in-person and Zoom audience of fifty, Ray started with a fascinating overview of the development of Hornsey from the mid-nineteenth century, identifying the impacts of its key developers – Richard Collins, James Edmondson, John Farrer and John Cathles Hill (who, incidentally, founded the London Brick Company and became a very rich man).

Ray went on to describe the different styles of English architecture that influenced the four and how local builders’ merchants made the mass-produced elements of decoration and components of construction available in a wide selection of designs.

All of this was illustrated with Ray’s own photographs on many local properties.
Questions were a’ plenty!
