Haringey or Harringay: Who decides? Five centuries of uncertainty
This is a narrated version of a talk given by the HHS’s Hugh Flouch in Hornsey Library as part of the 2025 Crouch End Festival and again in 2026 at Wood Green Library as part of Haringey’s Local Community and History month.
In this half hour illustrated talk, Hugh shares his research into the joint gestation and development of the place names of Harringay, Haringey and Hornsey. In it he takes us through a maze of interesting facts and absurd manoeuvring that have characterised the name’s history.
