Revolutionary Restauranteurs and Political Crimes by Peter Barber
14th January 2025 @ 7:00 pm
A late Victorian tale
In September 1890 a group of Swiss-born North London restaurateurs (including one with a restaurant in Finsbury Park) organised a revolution in their homeland. The events that followed were to have ramifications that continue to this day.
Peter Barber will explain who the revolutionaries were, why they were in the restaurant business, and how they came to be in London, before giving an account of the events themselves.
About the Speaker
Peter Barber OBE FSA is former Head of Maps at the British Library, and President of the Hornsey Historical Society.
