Victorian Marvels, Memorials and Monuments – A Two Part Tour
23rd July 2022 @ 10:30 am
AND July 23 @ 2.00pm
A day exploring Tottenham Cemetery on two different walking tours with Deborah Hedgecock, Curator of Bruce Castle Museum and Archive.
Part 1 – Saturday 23 July, 10.30am (this is a a repeat of the walk that took place in April)
Part 2 – Saturday 23 July, 2pm
An absorbing and fascinating place to visit, the 50 acres of Tottenham Cemetery is a peaceful haven to explore, as well as an important record of the social history of the area.
Join this walking tour looking at the earliest grave markers and monuments from when the cemetery first opened in the mid-19th century. Here you can find tombs showing the Victorian’s interest in the culture of memorialisation, as well as a range of decorative styles carved in stone reflecting the social standing and importance of local families in their last resting place.
Each separate tour will last 1.5 hours. This is a gentle walk, but do wear comfortable footwear.
Meet at the clocktower entrance of Bruce Castle Museum and Archive:
Part 1 – 10.15 for 10.30am start
Part 2 – 1.45 for 2pm start
Part 1 is a repeat of the previous walk in April, as many people were unable to attend during the week.
Part 2 tour is a separate tour with different content from tour 1.
You can join both if you would like to, no need to book, just turn up!
