Haringey Local History Fair
15th February 2020 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
Discover more about Haringey’s wonderful history and community heritage at the annual Haringey Local History Fair at Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive.
It is a chance to get involved, network and browse stalls from different local organisations from around the borough showcasing the area’s heritage. You can visit the Archive Searchroom to see special displays from the archive collections and talk to Archive staff to find out how to use the service and undertake research.
The programme of talks covers a wide range of topics including Alexandra Park Theatre in the 1920s, Oliver Tambo’s exile in Muswell Hill, the history of Tottenham’s Antwerp Arms, and Sir Rowland Hill and his development of the postal system. In addition to this, HHS’s David Winskill will be giving a talk on the story of the Freeman Family, north bakers for 200 years, who own Dunn’s bakers in Crouch End.
During the lunch hour enjoy a selection of short films from the archive’s collection.
The Fair will have stalls run by local organisations including the HHS, and authors in the Compton and Coleraine Galleries showcasing a range of heritage, art and cultural work from around Haringey. The Tudor Tower will be open too, with artwork by resident art group Art2View and the Café in the Old Kitchen will be selling teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes all day.
There is no charge for this event and all are welcome.
